Cubs Blank Pirates, Cardinals Fall To Royals

Baez beat the bunt out for a single. The Cubs had eight hits in the contest led by Schwarber with two doubles and two RBI.
The Cubs stand at 32-22 on the season and are 4.5 games ahead of second place St. Louis.
Effingham's Danny Winkler came in to throw the final inning and had three strikeouts.
At Kansas City
The St. Louis Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and held that until the fifth when Kansas City tied.
Then things went south for Adam Wainwright on the mound as he gave up two singles and walked Jorge Soler to load the bases. Maikel Franco then hit a single to score the go-ahead two runs and the Cardnials fell 4-1.
Yadier Molina led the Cardinals in hitting with two singles while Matt Carpenter hit a solo homer that gave the Cardinals their 1-0 lead in the second.
