South Central blanked Effingham Sacred Heart, 3-0 in junior high baseball action Wednesday.

South Central took a 2-0 first inning lead and tacked on a single run in the seventh. C. Smith led the way with two singles and an RBI. He also was the winning pitching going all seven innings allowing two hits and striking out six.

Sacred Heart's two hits were singles by Karolewicz and Wallace.

At Mattoon

Teutopolis Junior High School fell to Mattoon in Wedneday play.

 

Mattoon held a 2-0 opening inning lead and led 5-1 after two and 9-1 after three. The winning squad finished out with a 13-3 win in six innings.

T-town had five hits led by M. Bloemer with a triple and M. Helmink with a double. O. Kemme had a single and drove in a run and A. Tipton had an RBI.

At Newton

Cumberland claimed an 8-5 win over Newton St. Thomas in a back-and-forth battle Wednesday.

Cumberland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. St. Thomas answered back with five runs in the second. The score was tied going into the sixth when Cumberland tacked on three more runs.

The Saints were led by Quincy Fulton with two hits and two RBI. Jarrett Pitcher chipped in with an RBI.

St. Thomas returns to action next week when it travels to St. Anthony Thursday and squares off against Altamont Lutheran Friday for eighth-grade night.
