Teutopolis High School's baseball team claimed the Wooden Bat Classic championship.

Not once, but twice the Teutopolis High School baseball team came back to take victories in the Wooden Bat Classic Saturday and claim the championship.

Two games were contested at Paul Smith Field in Effingham and two at Teutopolis High School with the winners advancing to the title contest and the losers playing for third place.

In the two contests at T-town, Coach Justin Fleener's squad made a comeback after trailing North Clay (Louisville) 1-0 until the bottom of the seventh. The Cardinals started off with a run in the first inning as Collyn Ballard drew a leadoff walk, stole second and third and came home on a single by Brady Ingram.

From that point on it was pretty quiet. North Clay had only three more hits in the contest, two singles in the third and one in the sixth.

T-town put a runner on in the first on an error but then went three more innings without a hit. In the fifth, Dylan Pruemer singled and Evan Wermert drew a walk but North Clay got out of the frame unscathed. A single by Evan Addis went by the wayside in the sixth.

But here came the fateful seventh. With one out, Dylan Pruemer and Derek Konkel drew back-to-back walks. An error and a single  by Wermert sealed the deal as the Shoes pulled out a 2-1 victory.

Meanwhile at Paul Smith Field, St. Anthony had a relatively easy time with Dieterich. The Bulldogs tallied four runs in the first and third innings for an 8-4 lead. The Movin' Maroons pulled back within 8-5 in the fifth but the Bulldogs went on the warpath once again, scoring six runs and finished out with a 14-5 win.

St. Anthony had nine hits and was aided by four Movin' Maroons errors. Eli Levitt led the way with three singles and four RBI while Logan Antrim had two singles and three RBI and Josh Blanchette two singles and two RBI.

Dieterch was led by Pete Britton with a double and an RBI and Noah Dill with a triple and two RBI.

St. Anthony then traveled over to Teutopolis for the championship game.

The Bulldogs ripped off to a 5-0 lead in the third inning. With two outs, Conner Roepke started the run with a single. Kennan Walsh drew a walk and Logan Antrim followed with a single that drove in a run. Brody Niebrugge doubled home two runs and Colton Fearday added a single and an RBI.

St. Anthony tacked on a single run in the fifth when Walsh drew a walk, stole second and went to third on a balk. He came home on a sacrifice fly by Moore and St. Anthony was up 6-0.

Up to that point, Seth Hotze had the Wooden Shoes controlled, allowing only two walks over four innings. T-town finally broke free with a single by Dylan Pruemer in the fifth but the Shoes left the bases loaded with only one out as Derwk Konkel and Logan Roepke drew back-to-back walks.

Then came the sixth. Never count the Shoes out as Sam Bushur led off the frame with a single, took second and third on wild pitches. Wermert drew a walk and eventually came home on a wild pitch. Kayden Althoff singled. With one out, Dylan Pruemer drew a walk. St. Anthony changed pitchers and T-town took advantage.

Derek Konkel singled and Logan Roepke was hit by a pitch. Sam Bushur singled and Evan Wwrmert followed with a double that drove in three runs. Kayden Althoff singled and when the dust had finally cleared, the Wooden Shoes scored nine runs and held a 9-6 lead.

And that's where the game ended.

Over in the third place contest, North Clay pulled out a 3-2 win over Dieterich. The Cardinals held a 1-0 lead in the first inning before Dieterich tied in the sixth.

The Maroons moved ahead with a run in the eighth when Pete Britton got on base on a fielder's choice, Noah Dill singled and Garrett Niebrugge singled home the run.

But the Cardinals pulled off the victory in the bottom of the eighth as Dakota Weidner scored and Dakota Teague scored.
