Cardinals Drop Doubleheader To Pirates

In the opener, St. Louis outhit the Pirates but committed three errors and Pittsburgh claimed a 4-3 decision in extra innings.
The score was tied at 1-1 and the contest went into the eighth inning when Pittsburgh broke loose with three runs to move ahead. The Cardinals came back with two runs in the bottom of the frame but couldn't get over the hump.
Yadier Molina tied the game in the fifth with a solo homer. Tommy Edman had two singles while the other four hits were spread across four players.
Pittsburgh blanked the Cardinals 2-0 to sweep. The two runs came in the third inning as the Pirates had a 6-5 hitting edge.
St. Louis had three extra base hits, doubles by Paul Goldschmidt and Dylan Carlson and a triple by Brad Miller.
Cardinals pitchers did a good job on the mound allowing only two earned runs and no extra base hits but just couldn't come up with the wins.
St. Louis drops to the .500 level. three games behind the league-leading Chicago Cubs.
