The Royals took a 2-1 lead in the third inning before the Cardinals tied in the fourth. Kansas City moved ahead in the eighth with a run and led 5-2 in the ninth.
Four walks and a hit batter in the ninth helped things out immensely. Yadier Molina was hit by a pitch to bring across one run. Tyler O'Neill hit a grounder that bounced off the Royals' third baseman scoring two and tying the game. Trevor Rosenthal then drew a walk for the walk-off victory.
The Cardinals had nine hits in the contest as Molina and O'Neill had two singles each. O'Neill drove in two runs and Molina one.
At Detroit
There were 29 hits in the contest between the Chicago Cubs and the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers had 18 of those and pulled out a 7-6 victory despite a three-run rally in the ninth by the Cubs.
Chicago led 2-0 in the third inning but Detroit came back to take a 6-3 lead in the sixth and push that to 7-3 in the seventh. The Cubs rallied in the ninth but couldn't make up that four-run deficit.
Kyle Schwarber had a solo home run in the sixth. David Bote and Albert Almora Jr. had a double each. Almora drove in a run.
