Brownstown/St. Elmo opened their fall high school baseball season with a tough 5-4 loss Thursday, as Woodlawn scored three times in the bottom of the seventh for the win.

The Bombers had plated a run in the third and added three in the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead after the Cardinals had scored single runs in the first and fourth. Then came the last inning.

BSE collected five hits in the loss. Wyatt Chandler doubled and singled and drove in a run, while Francisco Viramontes singled twice. Dalton Myers also picked up a single. Brady Maxey and Lukas Miller each picked up a RBI.

Myers took the loss for the Bombers, working in relief.

BSE is next in action Tuesday at Neoga.

Dieterich opened its season in style, pounding Ramsey 11-0 in a six-inning game, allowing just one hit in the process.

The Movin Maroons scored a run in the third inning, then scored four times in both the fourth and fifth innings before plating two more runs in the sixth inning.

Dalton Will doubled and singled at the top of the order along with a walk and drove in three runs. Derek Kuhl doubled and walked twice, scored twice and drove in a run, while Noah Dill singled and walked, scored twice and drove in three runs. Pete Britton singled and walked and scored twice.

Britton got the win with a great opening performance, going four hitless innings with no walks, while fanning nine Rams batters. Seth Bushur went the final two innings, allowing the lone Ramsey hit but no walks while striking out three.
