CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Delta State baseball head coach Rodney Batts has announced the addition of assistant coach Andy Rincker to his staff on Friday, August 14, 2020.
"I am very excited about adding Coach Rincker to our baseball family and him leading our pitching staff," said Batts. "He comes to us with a wealth of experience on the pitching and recruiting side."
Rincker comes to Cleveland after serving an assistant at NCAA Division III Greenville University in Greenville, Ill. Rincker, who will serve as Delta State's pitching coach, managed Greenville's pitching staff and was responsible for recruiting since graduating from the school in 2009. He also served as an Admissions Coordinator.
Rincker helped coach Greenville to a pair of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) championships in 2015 and 2017, and the team made an appearance in an NCAA Regional in each of those years as well. Under his leadership, the Panthers posted a 74-34 SLIAC record in the last five seasons alone, including a pair of Eastern division titles in 2015 and 2017. The Panthers also won the SLIAC tournament in those same years, and he coached 14 All-Conference pitchers.
He was also part of the staff of the first 30-win team in Greenville University history, when the Panthers went 30-17, including a 16-6 mark in conference action, before winning the conference tournament and making an NCAA regional appearance.
Rincker has coached a number of successful individual players, including the Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2010, Matt Leefers. Leefers posted an 8-4 overall record with a 2.31 ERA in 14 appearances and 12 starts. Leefers had six complete games and struck out 53 in 78 innings that season. He also posted a 5-2 record and a meager 1.05 ERA in league play, helping the Panthers to 28-14 record and an 18-6 record in SLIAC competition.
Rincker has also spent time as a baseball camp instructor at Mississippi State and Auburn over the past six years, where he managed and organized camps and aided in the management of 150 youth baseball players.
In addition, Rincker was a head coach in the Lewis and Clark Summer League and a pitching instructor at Back 2 Back Training. Rincker's other stops include a stint as a coach for the Vandalia (Ill.) Summer Legion program and the pitching coach at Mac-N-Seitz A's Baseball facility.
Rincker holds a Bachelor's degree in physical education and a Master's degree of management practices, both from Greenville University.
"Coach Rincker is going to be a great addition to our baseball staff," Batts said. "But even more importantly, he is going to be a great addition to our Delta State University community."
