After a proposal from MLB Tuesday for a coronavirus-delayed 82-game season in which players would take salary cuts on a sliding scale that would see star players lose as much as 77 percent of their salary this year, the players’ union is expected to counter with a plan that would have teams play more than 100 games, and players would be guaranteed full prorated salaries, according to media reports Wednesday night.

Players were unhappy with the league’s proposal, and Washington Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer, who’s on the union’s executive subcommittee, tweeted Wednesday its pay cuts wouldn't be accepted.
