Oldest Son of George Steinbrenner Dies

New York Yankees co-owner Hank Steinbrenner, oldest son of late team owner George Steinbrenner, died Tuesday of a long-term health issue. He was 63.

Steinbrenner and his three siblings have controlling shares in the Yankees, but while Hank was a general partner and co-chair, he didn't appear to have much involvement in team operations in recent years. His younger brother, Hal Steinbrenner, has been in charge of the Yankees since 2008.

 

MLB Players, Employees Taking Part In Study

Players and employees of Major League Baseball teams are taking part in a large study that will test up to 10,000 people for coronavirus antibodies, with the goal of researchers getting a better idea of how widespread the disease is in major U.S. metropolitan areas by using a big nationwide sample. The study being run by Stanford University, USC and the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory will include players, front-office staff, concession workers and others, and will show if someone was infected even if they were asymptomatic. 

 

Former Cubs' Manager Dies

Former Kansas City Royals and Chicago Cubs manager Jim Frey died Saturday at age 88. Frey led the 1980 Royals to the AL pennant before losing the World Series to the Philadelphia Phillies, and managed the 1984 Cubs to the NL East title. He was also the Cubs general manager from 1988 through 1991.
