Proceeds From Baseball Tourney Will Benefit Special Olympics

DU QUOIN, Ill. – Twenty traveling baseball teams will compete in the Sixth Annual Beaver Rice Memorial Winter Indoor Baseball Tournament February 21-23, 2020. The tournament takes place at the Southern Illinois Center in Du Quoin. All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Illinois Southern/Region K.
Boys baseball teams from across Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, and Kentucky will compete in the following age groups: 10 & under, 11 & under, and 12 & under. The competition will begin at 5:30 pm Friday, February 21 and continue through Sunday, February 23. Each team will play a minimum of three games in a double-elimination tournament.
All proceeds provide support to over 1600 athletes competing with Special Olympics Illinois Southern Region K, which serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the following counties: Alexander, Clay, Edwards, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Lawrence, Marion, Massac, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Randolph, Richland, Saline, Union, Wabash, Wayne, White and Williamson counties.
An opening ceremony for the tournament begins at noon Saturday, February 22, at the S.I. Center, where all competing teams, tournament sponsors, community leaders, special guests, and Honorary Special Olympics Illinois Athletes will be introduced and honored at this time. Fans are encouraged to come out and cheer for all teams throughout the weekend.
