Spring Training Began Tuesday For MLB

Spring training began for Major League Baseball Tuesday, as the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres held their first official workouts and pitchers and catches for 16 other teams showed up to their pre-season facilities in Florida and Arizona. The rest of the teams will kick off their spring training during the rest of this week. Games will begin on February 21.

 

Red Sox Name Ron Roenicke As Interim Manager

The Boston Red Sox named bench coach Ron Roenicke as interim manager Tuesday, nearly a month after firing manager Alex Cora for his role in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal. Roenicke will remain in the position as "interim" until MLB finishes its investigation of possible Boston sign-stealing after Cora became manager in 2018.

 

Twins' Marwin Gonzalez Apologies

The Minnesota Twins' Marwin Gonzalez became the first former Astros hitter to apologize for his role in the 2017 sign-stealing scandal yesterday. The utility player, who was with Houston from 2012 to 2018, said, “I’m remorseful for everything that happened in 2017, for everything that we did as a group and for the players that were affected directly by us doing this. I wish I could take it back and do it a different way, but there’s nothing we can do.”
