Red Sox To Trade Betts, Price To Dodgers

The Boston Red Sox have agreed to trade 2018 American League MVP outfielder Mookie Betts and pitcher David Price to the L.A. Dodgers for a package that includes outfielder Alex Verdugo, ESPN reported last night. The deal also involves the Minnesota Twins, with the Dodgers sending pitcher Kenta Maeda to the Twins, who’ll send pitching prospect Brusdar GrateroL to Boston. Los Angeles is also getting cash from Boston in the trade.

 

Votes For Baseball HOF Remain Private

The lone baseball writer who didn't vote for Derek Jeter to enter the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility last month is keeping their ballot private. The Baseball Writers’ Association of America released the ballots of 315 of the 397 Hall of Fame voters Tuesday, but the single "no" vote for the former New York Yankees shortstop and captain was one of the 82 not released because the writers chose for them to stay private.

 

Phillies Retire Roy Hallaway's Number

The Philadelphia Phillies will retire late Hall of Fame pitcher Roy Halladay's Number 34 this season, doing so on the 10th anniversary of his perfect game against the Marlins on May 29, 2020, the 20th in MLB history. The two-time Cy Young Award-winner was killed in a plane crash in November 2017 at age 40.
