The New York Mets announced Thursday that they’d agreed to “mutually part ways” with manager Carlos Beltran over baseball's sign-stealing scandal. No player was punished by MLB, but Beltran was the only player named in its probe for his role in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scheme.

Beltran said in a statement, “Over my 20 years in the game, I've always taken pride in being a leader and doing things the right way, and in this situation, I failed.” Beltran is out before even beginning his first season with the Mets, having been hired in November. He's the third manager to lose his job in recent days over the scandal.

Astros' Sign-Stealing Fuels Rumors

The Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal fueled rumors Thursday that Astros players also used hidden, wearable devices that buzzed to tell them what pitches were coming. But MLB, which issued its report Monday, shot the speculation down, saying yesterday it “explored wearable devices during the investigation but found no evidence to substantiate it.” The rumors began to spread with tweets charging Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman wore the devices on the inside of their right shoulders. Cincinnati Reds pitcher Trevor  Bauer tweeted, “I've heard this from multiple parties too, for what it's worth...” Altuve denied it in a statement.
