The St. Louis Cardinals scored a Major League postseason record 10 runs in the first inning on their way to pounding the Atlanta Braves 13-1 in the deciding Game 5 of the National League Division Series.

The 10 runs also tied for most in any postseason inning, set by the ‘29 A's, ‘68 Tigers and ‘02 Angels.

Nationals Beat Dodgers to Win Series

The Washington Nationals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5 of their National League Division Series 7-3 on a 10th inning grand slam from Howie Kendrick. It was the first postseason series win for the franchise dating back to their Montreal Expos days. The Nationals will now face the Cardinals in the NLCS starting tomorrow.

Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann announced his retirement after Wednesday’s loss to the Cardinals. McCann played his first nine seasons with the Braves before rejoining the team this year and said he made the decision about a month and a half ago.

The Atlanta Braves didn’t hand out their foam tomahawks before Wednesday’s Game 5 in deference to St. Louis Native American pitcher Ryan Helsley. Helsley had called the tomahawks and the chop “disrespectful” and the Braves say they’ll reevaluate the tradition going forward.
