BSE Opens NTC Tourney With Win, Altamont Splits

One game was on tap Friday as the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament opened with Brownstown/St. Elmo coming out the winner over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 4-2.

CHBC took a 1-0 first inning lead and held that until the fourth when BSE tallied two then tacked on two more in the fifth. CHBC rallied for a run in the top of the seventh only to fall short.

BSE had seven hits led by Dalton Myers with two singles and two RBI and Caleb Atwood with a single and double. BSE now sports an 11-8 record and will advance to face top-seeded North Clay (Louisville) at 4 p.m. today.

In other games today, Dieterich is at Altamont, Neoga travels to South Central and St. Anthony hosts Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, all at 4 p.m.

At Altamont

Altamont played host to Woodlawn in regular season action Saturday and split victories.

In the opening contest, Altamont was a 7-6 winner rallying for six runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Woodlawn took a 3-0 lead in the first. Atlamont scored a run in the third. Woodlawn pushed its lead to 6-1 in the top of the seventh when the Indians went on the warpath, scoring six for the win.

Altamont had eight hits led by Baucum with a triple and an RBI, Stuemke with a double and two RBI and Eirhart with two singles.

Six pitchers took the mound for the Indians. Hammer ended up with the win, going in to get the final two outs in the seventh.

In the second game, Woodlawn came back with a 10-6 win behind a 12-hit attack. Woodlawn took a 2-1 first inning lead then added on a run in the second. Altamont moved ahead 4-3 in the third but Woodlawn came back with two runs in the fifth and sixth and three in the seventh.

The Indians had nine hits led by Phillips with two singles and  Baucum with a double and an RBI. Cripe had a single and drove in two runs.
