St. A, T-town Drop Junior High Baseball Games At State

EAST PEORIA -- Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School saw its season come to a close at the Class 1A State Baseball Tournament Friday at Eastside Centre.

Normal Epiphany took a 1-0 first inning lead but the Bullpups tied in the second. Normal moved ahead with a run in the third. St. Anthony took the lead in the sixth with two runs, 3-1. But Normal Epiphany came back in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score and then win the game, 4-3.

Both teams had five hits. St. Anthony was led by Connor Roepke with a double and Max Koenig with a single and an RBI.

Koenig suffered the tough-luck loss on the mound, going all seven innings, allowing five runs on four hits, four walks and six strikeouts.

St. Anthony ends the season with a 9-9 record.

In the second contest, Jacksonville Our Saviour won over Delavan, 4-0. Our Saviour (19-1) now faces Normal Epiphany (14-9) at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Class 2A State Tournament

Teutopolis squared off against Pleasant Plains in the Class 2A State Tournament at Eastside Centre and fell 5-4 Friday.

The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 3-1 opening inning lead. Pleasant Plains tied in the third. Both teams were tied again in the fifth at 4-4. Pleasant Plains then got the win in the bottom of the seventh.

Pleasant Plains outhit T-town 12-8. Leading the Shoes were Eli Hanson with a single, double and an RBI, Jackson Hille with a single and two RBI and Evan Waldhoff with a double.

T-town ends the season with an 18-3 record. Pleasant Plains advances with a 19-5 mark and will face Gillespie at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Gillespie downed Germantown Hills 6-3 in the opening contest.
