N. Clay Blanks Altamont, St. A Wins, Area Baseball Roundup

North Clay (Louisville) remained tough and handed Altamont a 7-0 loss in National Trail Conference baseball action Tuesday. That finishes the Cardinals at 7-1 in the conference and in a tie with South Central. The game was heard on 979 XFM.

The Cardinals stepped out early, taking a 2-0 first inning lead and tacking on single runs in the second and third. North Clay finished out with three in the fifth.

North Clay had seven hits led by Ballard with a triple and Bible with two singles and an RBI. The Cardinals' Tyson Jones went five innings for the win on the mound. He allowed two hits, three walks and struck out seven. Luke Fleener came on to finish the final two innings, allowing two hits, no walks and striking out two.

Altamont had four hits with two coming off the bat of Noah Teasley with a single and double.

North Clay improves to 15-4 on the season and is the No. 1 seed in the upcoming National Trail Conference Tournament next week.

At St. Elmo

Effingham St. Anthony tallied a 3-1 victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown in National Trail Conference action Tuesday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 in the third inning. The Bulldogs came through with two runs in the sixth to pull out the win.

Gavin Braunecker threw a one-hitter allowing two walks and striking out 11.

Kaden Fearday had two singles and an RBI to lead the Bulldogs.

The lone hit for SEB came from Wyatt Chandler with a single.

At St. Elmo

At Cowden

South Central pushed its National Trail Conference record to 7-1 by blanking Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 10-0 in five innings Tuesday. The Cougars finished tied atop the NTC standings with North Clay.

The Cougars took a 3-0 lead in the second inning, tacked on three more in the third and four in the fourth.

South Central had eight hits led by A. Dodson, S. Rubin and A. Patten with a double each. Dodson and Rubin had an RBI each. A. Lybarger had a single and drove in three runs.

J. Grzegorek went the five innings on the mound, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out 10.

CHBC had singles by S. Doty and D. Davis.

At Cowden

At Neoga

Neoga edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead but Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg came back to knot the score then tallied five in the fourth and finished out with a 7-5 National Trail Conference win Tuesday.

B. Beals led the way for the winners with two singles and three RBI. S. Vonderheide and G. Kasey had two singles each.

G. Kasey went five innings, allowing four runs on five hits, four walks and seven strikeouts.

Neoga was led by Fearday with a single, double and two RBI and Lacy with two singles.
