Area Teams Compete At North Clay Showcase, Baseball Roundup

LOUISVILLE -- Seven area teams competed in the North Clay (Louisville) Baseball Showcase Saturday.

Effingham St. Anthony pounded North Clay (Louisville), 14-1 in the first game. No other information provided.

Altamont edged Dieterich 5-4 in eight innings. The score was tied at 4-4 sending the game into the eighth when the Indians scored the winning run.

Baucum had a double, triple and drove in three runs for Altamont while Cripe had a single and double. Eirhart and Stuemke had two singles each. Eirhart drove in a run.

Dieterich was led by Niebrugge with a home run and two RBI and Hunzinger with a double.

Teutopolis' Mitch Hardiek threw a one-hitter, allowing two walks and striking out nine as the Wooden Shoes beat Cobden, 10-0 in six innings.

T-town tallied three in the first, five in the second and two in the sixth.

Luke Ungrund had a single, double and an RBI while Hardiek had a double. Evan Wermert and Justin Hardiek had two singles each. Wermert drove in two runs while Hardiek had one.

South Central claimed a 10-2 win over Cobden. The Cougars took a 2-0 first inning lead and never looked back.

South Central had five hits led by C. Dodson with two singles, a double and an RBI, Cowger with a double and an RBI and A. Dodson had a double.

Grzegorek threw the four innings, allowing two hits, six walks and striking out five.

Neoga blanked Sandoval/Odin/Patoka, 5-0.

The Indians had seven hits in the contest led by Fearday with a single, double and an RBI and Moore with a double and an RBI.

Moore picked up the win on the mound, going 6.1 innings, allowing three hits, five walks and striking out five.

South Central handed North Clay a 3-1 loss. The Cougars scored two in the second and one in the sixth.

South Central had five hits led by Bursott with two singles.

Weidner led North Clay with a double.

Sidwell threw a four-hitter with one walk and six strikeouts.

At Windsor

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg split victories Saturday.

WSS tallied an 8-0 victory over Mulberry Grove. The Hatchets stepped out to a 5-0 opening inning lead.

WSS had seven hits led by Wernsing with three singles and two RBI and Walden with two singles.

Woodlawn edged the Hatchets, 8-7. WSS held a 6-0 lead until the second when Woodlawn scored two runs then tallied six in the fourth.

WSS had 10 hits led by Kinkelaar with a single, double and an RBI, Walden with a triple, Beals with two singles and two RBI, Kasey with two singles and an RBI and Wittenberg with two singles.

Altamont claimed a 13-1 win in five innings over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Friday.

The Indians held a 4-0 first inning lead then had a six-run third.

Altamont tallied 17 hits in the game led by Hammer with three doubles and three RBI, Baucum with two singles, a double and three RBI, Eirhart with two singles and an RBI and Teasley with two singles. Eleven players got hits in the game for the Indians.

WSS was led by Rincker with a double and an RBI.

Brownstown/St. Elmo handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City an 11-5 loss in Friday action.

CHBC led 1-0 after the first before BSE tallied two in the third and led 6-4 in the fourth. BSE then scored five runs in the fifth.

Bryton Pruett had a double, home run and five RBI for the winners while Wyatt Chandler had four singles and two RBI and Francisco Viramontes two singles and an RBI.

CHBC had singles by Manley and Weber.

Dieterich picked up a 6-0 victory over Neoga in competition Friday.

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then tallied two in the third and one in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Niebrugge tallied a single, double and an RBI while Britton had two singles and two RBI and Ruholl two singles.

Neoga was led by Banning with two singles and Fearday and Walk with a double each.
