Effingham Junior High School advanced in the Class 3A Charleston Baseball Regional with a victory Wednesday.

The Mustangs took on Danville North Ridge and the two teams were tied at 2-2 after the opening inning. Effingham moved ahead with a run in the second then tallied five in the third and led 11-4 going into the final inning. Danville North Ridge came charging back with five runs in the top of the seventh only to fall short.

Effingham had 11 hits in the contest led by Raddatz with two singles, two doubles and three RBI, Fox with a single, double and an RBI and Webb and Koeberlein with two singles each. Webb had two RBI and Koeberlein one.

In the opening contest, Marshall came out a 12-9 winner over Westville.

Marshall, seeded fifth, advances to face top-seeded Charleston at 11 a.m. Saturday while third-seeded Effingham (12-8) will take on No. 2 seeded Mattoon at 1 p.m. The winners advance to the championship game Monday at 4 p.m.

Class 1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Third-seeded Effingham St. Anthony handed No. 6 Effingham Sacred Heart a 16-1 loss in opening round play of the Sigel St. Michael Regional Wednesday. No other information provided on game.

In the opener, Neoga downed Mulberry Grove, 6-1. Findlay Okaw Valley then pounded Ramsey, 15-0.

Neoga, seeded fifth, will now take on top-seeded Sigel St. Michael at 9 a.m. Saturday while St. Anthony faces No. 2 Findlay Okaw Valley at 10:30 a.m. The winners advance to Monday's championship game at 4:30 p.m.

 

Class 1A Dieterich Regional

Fourth-seeded Oblong advanced with a 16-6 win over fifth-seeded Dieterich in opening round play of the Dieterich Regional Wednesday.

In the second contest, third-seeded South Central was an 18-4 winner over sixth-seeded Palestine/Hutsonville.

Oblong advances to face top-seeded Newton St. Thomas at 9 a.m. Saturday while No. 2 seeded North Clay (Louisville) will meet South Central at 11 a.m. The winners advance to the championship game Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Class 2A Greenville Regional

Stewardson-Strasburg handily won in opening round play of the Greenville Regional Wednesday.

Stew-Stras, seeded third, blanked No. 6 Altamont, 10-0.

Neither team scored until the third when Stew-Stras tallied four runs, then tacked on four runs in the fourth and two in the sixth.

Leading Altamont were Daniel McCammon and Justin Magelitz with a single each.

In the opening contest, fourth-seeded Greenville downed fifth-seeded Brownstown/St. Elmo, 12-2.

Greenville will meet top-seeded Shelbyville Moulton at 10 a.m. Saturday while Stewardson-Strasburg advances to take on No. 2 Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 11:30 a.m. The winners will then meet for the championship at 4 p.m. Monday.

Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Cumberland will now face Teutopolis after picking up a 10-3 victory over Casey-Westfield Wednesday in the Casey-Westfield Regional.

The second game went to Lawrenceville Parkview, seeded third, over sixth-seeded Red Hill (Bridgeport), 13-3.

Cumberland will now face top-seeded Teutopolis Saturday at 10 a.m. Lawrenceville Parkview takes on No. 2 Jasper County at 11:30.

The winners advance to the championship contest scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Monday.
