CHARLESTON -- Effingham Junior High School had a four-run second inning and went on to pick up the win over Charleston, 7-3 in baseball action Thursday.

The Mustangs had nine hits in the game led by Lewis with a single, double and an RBI, Raddatz with two singles, Verdeyen with a double and an RBI and Webb with a single and two RBI.

Nichols picked up the win going all seven innings, allowing five hits, four walks and striking out five.

The Mustangs have now beaten two (12-0) unbeaten teams on back-to-back days.

Effingham Sacred Heart claimed a 12-2 win over Dieterich in junior high play Thursday.

The Shamrocks were led offensively by Tyler Sparks who had four hits and four RBI. Noah Biggs had two hits and an RBI and Jacob Boyajian had two hits and two RBI.

Austin Borries took the win on the mound.

Jasper County improved to 9-4 on the season by downing Paris Crestwood, 10-1 Thursday.

Jasper County had some good at-bats with 14 hits that included four doubles. Flowers had two singles, a double and an RBI while Barthelme had two singles and a double and Meinhart and Wolfe a double each. Meinhart had an RBI and Wolf one. Clark had two singles and drove in two runs.

Nichols was the winning pitcher going 5.2 innings, allowing four hits, three walks and striking out four.

Sigel St. Michael came calling and blanked host Altamont, 12-0 in five innings Thursday.

The Sharpshooters had a 2-0 first inning lead then tacked on a single run in the second, five in the third and four in the fourth.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City handed Vandalia a 17-2 loss in five innings via the 10-run rule Thursday.

Vandalia held a 2-1 first inning lead before CHBC came back to move ahead 3-2 in the second, then tacked on six in the third, seven in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Jaxon Manley had a single, double and four RBI while Wyatt Rueff had a single, double and two RBI. Layne Jones had a single and double while Rylee Fisher had three singles and three RBI. Kaidyn Calame added a double and an RBI.

Fisher was the winning pitcher, going four innings.

North Clay/Clay City jumped out to a 2-0 opening inning lead but that didn't stand up as Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg finished with a 6-2 victory Thursday.

WSS had five hits, all singles by Gurdl, Manhart, Gracey, Bridges and Rincker. Gracey and Bridges had two RBI each while Manhart had one.

North Clay was led by Zimdars with a double and Dawkins and Weidner with two singles each. Dawkins added an RBI.

Manhart took the win on the mound, going all seven innings, allowing six hits, one walk and striking out eight.
