Wooden Shoes Beat Cardinals, 9-1

TEUTOPOLIS -- Coach Justin Fleener's crew put together an 11-hit attack and handed North Clay/Clay City its first loss of the season, 9-1 in baseball action Wednesday.

Teutopolis edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead and led 2-1 after two innings. The Wooden Shoes then tacked on single runs in the third and fourth and finished out with a five-run sixth.

Trenton Schwerdt improved his pitching record to 3-0 by throwing a three-hitter with two walks and six strikeouts. Luke Ungrund came on to finish out the final two innings allowing not hits, no walks and striking out three.

The Shoes had 11 hits led by Schwerdt and Matt Deters with a single and double each. Deters added an RBI. Ungrund chipped in with two singles and an RBI.

North Clay/Clay City was led by Clifton with a single and double. The Cardinals drop to 7-1 on the season and return to play today hosting Webber Township (Bluford).

T-town improved its record to 8-2 and will be back in action today hosting Dieterich.
