Trenton Schwerdt's two-out triple in the bottom of the fifth inning led the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes to a 2-0 win over the St. Anthony Bulldogs in action at Wooden Shoe Field Wednesday night.

The contest was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

Schwerdt's hit to deep right field plated Luke Ungrund and Mitch Hardiek with the only runs of the game.

Meanwhile, good pitching dominated the contest as St. Anthony's Gavin Braunecker and the Teutopolis duo of Mitch Hardiek and Schwerdt matched shutout innings until Schwerdt's triple.

Both teams had runners on in the first inning as Kaden Fearday led off with a single for the Bulldogs but was left stranded and Ungrund also led off with a single, stole second but the next three batters got outs.

St. Anthony's Aaron Webb led off the second with a single and Braunecker singled. But T-town got out of the frame unscathed. The Shoes' Evan Wermert drew a walk to start the second but the Bulldogs' Braunecker got two strikeouts and Wermert was thrown out.

T-town rumbled in the fourth as Schwerdt and Hemmen got back-to-back singles. Wermert sacrified the runners to second and third but Braunecker got tough on the mound with two strikeouts.

The Shoes came back in the fifth. With two outs, Ungrund doubled and M. Hardiek drew a walk. Schwerdt followed with his run-scoring triple.

The Bulldogs came back in the seventh. Davis Tingley drew a walk. With one out, Angelo Mendella got on with a fielder's choice as Tingley was thrown out. The Shoes then ended the game with a fly ball out.

Braunecker went five innings allowing five hits, two runs, two walks and striking out eight to suffer the loss.

Hardiek threw three innings allowing three hits and striking out one. Schwerdt came on to go the final four innings allowing no hits, two walks and striking out two.

Teutopolis improved to 2-0 on the young season, while St. Anthony is now 0-2.
