The Chicago Cubs have sent shortstop Addison Russell to Triple-A Iowa to make room for catcher Willson Contreras, who was activated from the 10-day injured list. The move comes about two months after Russell returned from a suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy.

Red Sox Protest Game

The Boston Red Sox played Wednesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays under protest. The protest was over Rays' substitutions that left Tampa with two pitchers in the game without specifying which one would actually pitch. After a 20- minute delay, umpires determined the Rays didn’t gain an advantage and Tampa wound up winning the game 3-2.
