The Chicago Cubs have acquired catcher Martin Maldonado from the Kansas City Royals. In return, the Royals get left-hander Mike Montgomery.

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed third baseman Matt Carpenter on the injured list with a right foot contusion. Carpenter was injured when he fouled a ball off his foot in the seventh inning Monday night.

White Sox' Jimenez Had Soreness In Elbow

Chicago White Sox rookie outfielder Eloy Jimenez left Tuesday night’s game against the Royals in the first inning after seemingly slight contact with Charlie Tilson on the warning track. The White Sox later announced Jimenez had soreness in his right elbow and will undergo further exams.

Phillies Hurt On Checked Swing

Philadelphia Phillies left fielder Jay Bruce left Tuesday night's game against the Dodgers in the third inning with a right oblique strain. Bruce was apparently hurt on a checked swing.
