EIU's Cushing To Throw Out First Pitch Sunday

Chicago native and current Eastern Illinois head football coach Adam Cushing will throw out the first pitch at the Chicago White Sox game on Sunday, July 28.

Cushing grew up on the South Side of Chicago and will be returning home prior to opening his first season as the Panthers head coach.

Eastern Illinois fans, students, alumni and community members are invited to purchase tickets for this EIU Day at Guaranteed Rate Field with discounted tickets starting at $11.

The White Sox will take on the Minnesota Twins that day with a start time of 1:10 p.m.

Eastern Illinois football will open fall camp in early August with the Panthers first game on Thursday, Aug. 29 at Chattanooga.  After a road game on Sept. 7 to Big Ten member Indiana, EIU plays its home opener on Sept. 14 against Illinois State in the Mid-America Classic.  Season ticket sales and renewals are now underway online at www.eiupanthertickets.com or by calling 217-581-2106.


Rays Granted Permission To Play Part Of Season In Montreal

Major League Baseball has granted the Tampa Bay Rays permission to explore a deal that would have them playing part of their season in Montreal. The Rays have been desperately seeking a new stadium in Tampa, although a split season deal would have to overcome numerous hurdles.


Mets Fire Pitching Coach

The New York Mets fired pitching coach Dave Eiland and bullpen coach Chuck Hernandez. The Mets named Phil Regan interim pitching coach and Ricky Bones interim bullpen coach.
