EIU's Govern Named To All-Mideast Region First Team

Eastern Illinois second baseman Jimmy Govern was named a Rawlings first-team All-Mideast Region selection as the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) released its regional teams on Wednesday.  Players selected on each of the ABCA’s All-Region first teams will now be considered for the All-America team that will be released on June 15.

Govern hit .326 during the season finishing with 16 doubles, 16 home runs and 52 RBI.  He would finish his career ranked in the top ten at EIU in career home runs and RBI.

He was recently selected in the 30th round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft by the Kansas City Royals.  Govern was a first team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection this past season and named a third team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.

Govern becomes the seventh EIU player since 1990 to be selected to the ABCA All-Mideast Region team and the first since Jason Jetel (1992) to earn first team honors.
