Wooden Shoes Welcomed Home

The 2019 2A state champion Teutopolis Wooden Shoes were welcomed home Sunday afternoon with a fire truck ride through the village and a celebration at J.H. Griffin Gym.

Teutopolis Athletic Director Laurie Thompson emceed the event. Village Board President Greg Hess spoke, as did Teutopolis Sportsbackers President Ron Niebrugge, school board representative Troy Ozenkoski, retiring Wooden Shoes softball coach Rich Niebrugge, parents representative and senior players Tyler Runde, Clint Weber, Dawson Smith and Brayden Will.

The featured speaker was Wooden Shoe baseball coach Justin Fleener, who spoke about the talent of the team, but also their ability to band together and win. As he has in the past, Fleener said his goal for his players is to become "good daddies, and to raise their children right." He talked about the family-oriented nature of the Teutopolis community, and feels it's a big reason for the success of the athletic programs

Thompson took time to recognize the success of other Teutopolis sports programs in what was a great year for programs all through our listening area.
