EHS Baseball Nabs Two Out Of Three During Weekend

Effingham High School claimed two out of three victories during weekend baseball action.

The Hearts played a doubleheader Friday against Bethalto Civic Memorial and split wins.

EHS won the opener 2-0. The lone two runs of the contest came in the first inning. The Hearts had eight hits led by Brayton Poland with a double and two RBI and Cooper Jackson with two singles.

Zach Lee threw a two-hitter allowing one walk and striking out 10.

In the second contest, Bethalto Civic Memorial came back with a 5-3 victory over the Hearts. EHS took a 1-0 first inning lead. Civic Memorial then moved ahead 3-1 in the top of the third only to see the Hearts tie in the bottom of the inning. Bethalto then claimed the win with two in the fifth.

EHS outhit Civic Memorial 8-6. Tanner Gordon had two singles while Poland had two singles and an RBI.

The Hearts then traveled to Centralia for Saturday action.

fEfingham's Kollin Waymoth, Christian Raddatz and Poland combined to pitch a no-hitter. Waymoth went three innings allowing one walk and striking out one. Raddatz threw an inning allowing no hits and no walks and Poland finished out with an inning and two strikeouts.

Cameron Kalber had a home run and three RBI while Gordon and Colin Fielitz had a double and an RBI each.
