Effingham St. Anthony moved into the championship of its own Class 1A Baseball Regional with a victory over Neoga Wednesday, 21-0.

The game ended in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs had a 2-0 first inning lead and pushed that to 5-0 in the second. Then came a big scoring third as the Bulldogs tallied 16 and ended the contest.

St. Anthony had 12 hits led by Blake Niebrugge with a double, home run and four RBI. Aaron Webb banged out three singles and drove in four runs. Dylan Guy contributed two doubles and an RBI while Hunter Stephens, Braeden Quandt and Logan Antrim had a double and two RBI each.

Jack Hoene went three innings on the mound, allowing two hits, no walks and striking out four. Antrim came on to finish out the contest allowing no hits, one walk and striking out one.

Neoga's hits were singles by Chase Lanham and Nate Lacy.

In the second game, Altamont blanked Casey-Westfield 7-0.

St. Anthony and Altamont will square off for the regional title Saturday at 11 a.m.

Class 1A Nokomis Regional

Cumberland claimed a 9-3 victory over Ramsey in the Nokomis Regional Wednesday.

The Pirates stepped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, then added on two in the third and four and one in the fifth.

Reed Mathenia had a single, double and an RBI for the winners while Michael Flier had a single, double and two RBI. Ross Hemmen chipped in with two singles and two RBI.

Cumberland advances to the championship game Saturday at 1 p.m. to face the winner of the Nokomis vs. Brownstown/St. Elmo contest that is being played today at 4:30.

Class 1A Oblong Regional

South Central trailed Red Hill (Bridgeport) 2-1 after five innings but came back with three runs in the sixth to claim a 4-2 win in the Oblong Regional Wednesday.

The Cougars had only three hits in the contest led by Chase Dodson with a single, double and two RBI. DJ Roberts had the other hit, a double.

Logan Lotz threw a five-hitter allowing two walks and striking out four for the win.

South Central advances to face either Dieterich or Hutsonville/Palestine at 10 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship. Those two teams play today at 4:30 p.m.

Class 1A North Clay (Louisville) Regional

The North Clay vs. Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran contest that was scheduled for Wednesday was moved to Thursday due to wet grounds. The contest will be at 4:30 p.m.

With that move, the Thursday contest featuring Odin Co-op against Cisne has been moved to Friday at 4:30 p.m.

 

Class 2A Greenville Regional

Teutopolis took a 4-0 first inning lead then broke the game wide open with a 10-run third and finished out with a 15-0 win over Vandalia in the Greenville Regional Wednesday. The game ended in the fourth.

The Wooden Shoes had 12 hits led by Dawson Smith with two singles, a double and three RBI, Clint Weber with a single, two doubles and five RBI, Mitch Hemmen with a home run and two RBI, Luke Ungrund with a single, double and an RBI and Tyler Runde with a double.

Hemmen threw the one-hitter with one walk and six strikeouts. He now sports a 5-0 record.

T-town improved to 22-8-1 on the season and will face either Greenville or Hillsboro at 11 a.m. Saturday for the championship. Those two teams play today at 4:30.

Robinson edged Lawrenceville, 3-2 in the Newton Regional Wednesday.

Robinson advances to the championship game Saturday at 11 a.m. to face either Newton or Flora.

Newton and Flora square off today at 4:30 p.m.
