Newton Downs Neoga, Altamont Drops Close Decision

NEWTON -- Newton broke open a close game with a six-run fifth in a 7-1 victory over Neoga in high school baseball action Thursday.

Neoga tallied a run in the top of the fourth and the Eagles tied in the bottom of the frame.

The Eagles had eight hits led by Ross Farley with two doubles and four RBI and Connor Bierman with three singles and an RBI.

Kyle Schafer was the winner on the mound, going the distance, allowing three hits, two walks and striking out six.

Neoga was led in hitting by Isaac Walk and Chase Lanham with a double each.

At Woodlawn

Woodlawn moved out to a 1-0 first inning lead then had a three-run second to edge Altamont, 4-3 Thursday.

Altamont outhit Woodlawn 8-7. The Indians were led by Noah Teasley with three singles and an RBI, Jacob Robbins with two singles and Braidin Baucum with a double and two RBI.

Alek Biggs picked up the loss, allowing seven hits, four walks and striking out seven.
