Hearts Split DH; T-town, Altamont, C'land Win

Effingham High School split a doubleheader with Taylorville in Apollo Conference baseball action Tuesday.

The Hearts took an 11-0 win in five innings in the opener behind the no-hit pitching of Zach Lee. Lee, not only didn't allow a hit, but he struck out 10 and didn't give up a walk.

Meanwhile the Hearts had 11 hits led by Colin Fielitz with a single, triple and three RBI and Brayton Poland with a single, double and two RBI. Cooper Jackson, Z. Lee and Nick Bishop had a double each. Jackson had two RBI while Lee and Bishop had one each.

In the second contest, the Hearts started off with a 1-0 lead in the third when the Tornadoes tied and took a 2-1 lead in the fifth.

The Hearts had four hits, all singles by Kendall Ballman, Poland, Jackson Lee and Bishop. EHS is now 17-5 on the season.

At Dieterich

Teutopolis pounded out 12 hits and brought home a whopping 20 runs in a 20-1 win over Dieterich Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 2-1 first inning lead then tallied eight runs in the second and eight in the third before finishing out with two in the fifth.

Clint Weber led the way for the Shoes with two singles, a double, home run and five RBI. Mitch Hardiek had a single, double and two RBI. Brady McMahon added a double and three RBI while Brock Deters had two singles and three RBI.

Dieterich was led by Cole Niebrugge, Blake Lane and Austin Ruholl with a single each.

The Wooden Shoes are now 19-8 on the season while Dieterich dropped to 11-6.

Altamont and Brownstown/St. Elmo were tied at 2-2 after the first inning before the Indians moved ahead 4-2 in the second and finished with a 7-2 victory.

The Indians' Dakota Kuhlman threw a two-hitter with three walks and nine strikeouts.

Jacob Hammer led the way in hitting with two doubles and two RBI while Jacob Robbins added two singles and an RBI.

BSE was led by Nate Philpot and Andy Goldsborough with a single each.

At Brownstown

Mulberry Grove claimed a 5-3 victory over Neoga in action Tuesday.

Mulberry Grove held a 3-2 lead afer three innings then tacked on another run in the fourth.

Neoga had four hits led by Isaac Walk with a single, double and an RBI and Chase Banning with a double and an RBI. The Indians fall to 4-17 on the season.

Cumberland took a 3-0 first inning lead on Oblong and went on for an 11-2 victory Tuesday.

The Pirates had 12 hits led by Kaleb French with three singles and Reid Mathenia, Brennyn Cutts and Brayson Shew with two singles and an RBI each. Michael Flier had two RBI.

Mathenia was the winning pitcher going 3.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, five walks and a strikeout.
