SHELBYVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead on Shelbyville in high school baseball action Saturday and finished with a 15-7 victory.

The Bulldogs scored in all five innings to end the contest. Blake Niebrugge hit a home run and had two RBI for St. Anthony while Dylan Guy had a single, double and an RBI, Jack Hoene a double and two RBI, Bryson Wall three singles and three RBI and Collin Koester and Kaden Fearday two singles and two RBI each.

Fearday picked up the pitching win going 2.1 innings, allowing three hits, five runs, two walks and striking out two.

At Shelbyville

At Effingham

Effingham claimed an Apollo Conference doubleheader over Charleston Saturday.

The Hearts won the opener 11-6 behind a 13-hit attack. The Trojans held a 2-0 lead until the fourth when the Hearts broke loose with five runs then had three-run innings in the fifth and sixth.

Cooper Jackson had two doubles and an RBI while Zach Lee had two singles and drove in four runs. Nick Bishop added two singles and three RBI and Parker Wolfe three singles.

In the second contest, the Hearts picked up an 8-5 victory behind eight hits.

EHS stepped out to a 7-0 first inning lead. The Hearts had eight hits led by Kendall Ballman, with a single, double and an RBI, J. Lee with a double and two RBI and Brayton Poland with two singles and an RBI.

Effingham is now 15-3 overall.

At Kinmundy

South Central picked up a 4-2 win over Centralia in action Saturday.

The Cougars took a 1-0 first inning lead but Centralia tied in the top of the second. South Central regained the lead in the bottom of the frame with two runs and finished out with one in the fourth.

South Central had nine hits led by Hayden VanScyoc and Logan Lotz with two singles each. VanScyoc added an RBI.

Lotz picked up the pitching win, going five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, four walks and three strikeouts.

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) took a 5-0 first inning lead on Altamont but the Indians came roaring back to nab a 12-9 win Friday.

The Indians banged out 14 hits in the contest, seven of those extra base hits. Alex Biggs had a home run and three RBI, Dakota Kuhlman, Braidin Baucum and Jacob Hammer and Noah Teasley a single and double each. Kuhlman had two RBI while Hammer and Teasley had one each. Grant Schmidt added two singles and two RBI while Jacob Robbins and T. Robbins had a double each.

North Clay was led by Holden Clifton with two singles and two RBI and Harmon with a double.

In a contest Saturday at Flora, the Wolves edged Altamont, 8-7.

The Indians took a 4-2 opening inning lead and tallied a single run in the second and led 7-0 in the top of the fourth. Flora came back with six runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull out the one point victory.

Altamont had four hits led by Jacob Hammer with a home run and three RBI and Jacob Robbins with two singles and an RBI. The Indians are now 10-8 on the season.

Teutopolis claimed two victories in action Friday. The Wooden Shoes defeated Marshall by a 12-2 count in five innings.

The Wooden Shoes' Clint Weber improved his pitching record to 4-0 by tossing a four-hitter with no walks and seven strikeouts.

T-town had 13 hits led by Trenton Schwerdt with a double, home run and one RBI, Dawson Smith with three singles and five RBI, Weber with three singles and five RBI, Mitch Hardiek with two singles and an RBI and Mitch Hemmen with a double.

In the second contest, T-town edged Pleasant Plains, 2-1.

Pleasant Plains held a 1-0 lead in the third. T-town tied in the fourth and scored the winning run in the sixth.

The Wooden Shoes had six hits led by Hardiek with a single and double. Smith picked up the pitching win going seven innings allowing two hits, one run, no walks and striking out nine.

At Toledo

Cumberland claimed two victories during weekend action.

On  Friday, the Pirates defeated Tri-County, 7-1. Cumberland had a five-run second and finished with nine hits in the contest. Brennyn Cutts had a single, home run and two RBI while Brayson Shew added two doubles and two RBI. Alex Talley contributed a single and double.

Justin Brown picked up the pitching win going six innings, allowing one run on five hits, one walk and striking out 13.

In the Saturday contest, Cumberland handed Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond a 4-2 defeat. ALAH led 2-0 after one inning and held that until the third when the Pirates tallied three runs.

Cumberland had six hits led by Cutts with two singles and an RBI.
