Effingham st. Anthony scored early and held on for a 4-1 victory over Tolono Unity in high school baseball action Tuesday.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on two in the second and finished out with one in the sixth.

Collin Koester was the winning pitcher going five innings, allowing one run on two hits, two walks and striking out five. Gavin Braunecker came on in relief in the sixth to go two innings with two walks and three strikeouts.

Kaden Fearday had a single, double and an RBI for the Bulldogs while Davis Tingley had three singles and an RBI. Logan Antrim had two RBI and a single. The Bulldogs are now 15-4 on the season.

At St. Anthony

At Teutopolis

Trenton Schwerdt threw a two-hitter as Teutopolis handed Newton a 6-1 loss in action Tuesday.

Schwerdt went all seven innings, allowing two hits, one run, three walks and striking out 12. He improved to 3-1-1 on the season.

Meanwhile, the Shoes had eight hits and tallied single runs in the third and fifth and four in the fourth. Dawson Smith led the way with a single, triple and an RBI while Evan Addis picked up a single, double and an RBI and Tyler Runde two singles and an RBI.

Newton was led by Trent Smithenry and Zak Pitcher with a single each. The Eagles drop to 5-13.

T-town improves its record to 14-5.

Cumberland came calling and picked up a 5-1 victory over Brownstown/St. Elmo Tuesday.

BSE took a 1-0 lead and held that until the third when the Pirates scored three runs then tacked on two more in the fourth.

Brayson Shew threw a three-hitter with two walks and nine strikeouts. The Pirates were led by Ross Hemmen with three singles and two RBI and Brennyn Cutts with a double and an RBI.

BSE was led by Caleb Atwood with a single and double. BSE drops to 11-8.

At Brownstown

Dieterich trailed Casey-Westfield 1-0 until the third then took matters into its own hands with a three-run third and went on for an 8-2 win Tuesday.

The Movin' Maroons had nine hits and were aided by six Casey-Westfield errors. Matthew Hunzinger and Cole Niebrugge had a single, double and three RBI each. Dalton Will added a single, double and an RBI and Ethan Kidd a triple.

Niebrugge was the winning pitcher going six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, one walk and striking out 10.

Shelbyville had an 11-run fourth inning and ended the game in the fifth 20-8 over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday.

The Rams had 10 hits and took advantage of 13 walks by CHBC pitchers.

CHBC had six hits led by Quaid Schlanser with a single and double, Andy Weber with a double and two RBI and Nick Miller with two singles and two RBI.

Charelston took a 3-0 lead in the third and went on to blank Altamont 4-0 in action Tuesday.

Altamont had three hits in the contest, all singles by Jacob Robbins, Jacob Hammer and Noah Teasley.

Hammer picked up the loss on the mound going all seven innings, allowing seven hits, four runs, one walk and striking out three.

Neoga edged Arcola, 3-2 in competition Tuesday.

Arcola held a 1-0 lead but Neoga tied in the second then moved ahead 2-1 in the fifth. Arcola tied in the top of the sixth but the Indians won with a run in the bottom of the frame.

Trenton Moore was the winning pitcher and improved to 2-1. He went seven innings, allowed four hits, two walks and struck out 12.

He also led the way offensively with two singles, a home run and an RBI. Neoga is now 3-13 on the season.
