Bulldogs Down Centennial, S.C. Wins Own Tourney, Area Baseball Scores

CHAMPAIGN -- Effingham St. Anthony struck early with six runs in the first inning then held off Champaign Centennial, 9-5 in high school baseball competition Friday.
The Bulldogs had 12 hits in the game but committed eight errors. Leading St. Anthony was Blake Niebrugge with a single, home run and three RBI, Bryson Wall with two doubles and an RBI, Dylan Guy with a single, double and an RBI, Kaden Fearday with three singles and two RBI and Aaron Webb with two singles and an RBI.
Jared Hoene picked up the pitching win, going 2.1 innings, allowing seven htis, four runs, one walk and striking out three.

At Kinmundy
South Central played host to its annual Wooden Bat Tournament and claimed the championship during the weekend.
North Clay (Louisville) won the opener over Valmeyer, 7-2.
South Central then defeated Flora, 4-3 taking a 1-0 first inning lead and putting together three runs in the second.
Both teams had six hits. South Central was led by Hayden VanScyoc with two hits that included a single and home run along with two RBI. Chase Dodson knocked out a solo homer.
Aaron Patten picked up the win on the mound going 4.2 innings, allowing four hits, three runs, three walks and striking out five.
The Cougars then downed Valmeyer, 9-1. Once again South Central moved ahead in the first inning with two runs and had four in the fourth and three in the sixth.
Logan Lotz and Andrew Lybarger combined to throw a one-hitter. Lotz went six innings for the win giving up the one run on one hit, one walk and striking out eight. Lybarger came on in the seventh allowing no hits.
Flora then defeated Valmeyer, 5-4 and North Clay won over Flora, 10-0.
South Central finished with a 3-0 record for the championship by blanking North Clay, 3-0.
The Cougars tallied a run in the second and two in the fifth. Brandt went five innings, allowingi two hits, three walks and striking out five for the win.
Patten had three singles while Sebastin Cowger had two singles and an RBI.

The Wildcats edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and tallied runs from the third through the sixth innings.

Brownstown/St. Elmo split victories in action Saturday.
Wayne City blanked BSE, 10-0 in the opening game. Wayne City took a 2-0 lead in the third inning then had a seven-run fifth and ended the game with a run in the sixth.
BSE had five hits led by Caleb Atwood with two doubles, Francisco Viramontes with two singles and Brady Maxey with a double.
The second game was Wayne City against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City. No score was reported.
The third contest went to BSE over CHBC, 10-1. BSE took a 2-0 second inning lead and led 4-0 going into the sixth then tallied four more and two in the seventh.
Nate Philpot threw a one-hitter over 4.2 innings with three walks and 11 strikeouts.
Dalton Myers had two singles and an RBI for the winners while Viramontes added a double and an RBI.
Mason Manley had the lone hit for CHBC with a single and an RBI.

Cumberland picked up three victories during weekend action.
The Pirates took a 2-0 first inning lead and never looked back in an 18-5 win over Hutsonville/Palestine Friday.
Cumberland had 19 hits in the contest led by Brennyn Cutts with three singles, a home run and two RBI, Michael Flier a single, home run and three RBI, Dayton Mitchell with a home run and two RBI, Alex Talley with a single, double and two RBI, Brayson Shew with three singles and an RBI, Justin Brown with two singles and two RBI and Reid Mathenia and Ross Hemmen with two singles and an RBI each.
Cumberland then picked up a doubleheader win over Vandalia in Saturday play.
The Pirates won 4-1 breaking a 1-1 opening inning tie. Both teams had six hits.
Cumberland was led by Mitchell with a single, double and an RBI.
In the second contest, the Pirates tallied the winning run in the bottom of the sixth for a 3-2 victory.
The Pirates had only two hits, a double by Talley with an RBI and a single and an RBI by Shew.
