Taking the early lead, Effingham went on to hand unbeaten North Clay (Louisville) its first loss in high school baseball action Thursday, 9-0.

The Hearts edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on three in the third, four in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Coach Chris Fleener's outfit had 11 hits in the contest led by Brayton Poland with a single, two doubles and three RBI, Jackson Lee with a double, home run and four RBI and Carson Utz with two doubles. Zach Lee chipped in with a double and an RBI.

Z. Lee had his strikeout pitches singing as he sat down 10 North Clay batters for the win on the mound. He went six innings allowing no walks and five hits. Kollin Waymoth finished out the final inning allowing one hit and striking out one. The Hearts improved to 11-2 on the season.

The Cardinals were led by Tyson Jones with two singles and Elijah McCrary wih a double. The squad fell to 13-1 on the season.

At Effingham

At Sauget

This was a pitcher's dual as South Central and Greenville played at Grizzle Stadium in Sauget Thursday.

The lone run scored in this contest came in the first inning as South Central tallied a 1-0 victory over Greenville.

Chase Dodson threw a two-hitter with three walks and seven strikeouts for the Cougars' win. The tough-luck loser was Harnetiaux who went 4.1 innings, allowing four hits, one run, four walks and two strikeouts. Tipsword came on to throw 1.2 innings allowing one walk.

The Cougars finished with four hits, all singles. Logan Lotz tallied two singles while Sam Rubin had a single and Andrew Lybarger hit the single that scored the lone run.

At Sauget

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis continues to roll along after a rocky start to the season. The latest victim was Dieterich as the Wooden Shoes' Mitch Hardiek threw a two-hitter.

Hardiek finished with two walks and struck out 12 in the 10-0 win in six innings Thursday.

The Shoes had 12 hits led by Mitch Hemmen with a single, double, home run and four RBI and Luke Ungrund with a single, home run and an RBI. Clint Weber added a single and double while Trenton Schwerdt had a double and Dawson Smith two singles and an RBI.

The two singles for the Movin' Maroons came off the bat of Cole Niebrugge.

T-town improves to 10-5 while Dieterich drops to 7-4.

At Teutopolis

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo improved its record to 9-4 on the season with a 7-1 victory over Ramsey Thursday.

BSE took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Ramsey pulled within 2-1 in the third but BSE broke the game open with a four-run fourth.

Francisco Viramontes threw 4.1 innings allowing one run, three hits, two walks and striking out four to pick up the pitching win.

Jace McWhorter led the way in the hitting department with a single, triple and two RBI. Nate Philpot added a double and an RBI. Brady Maxey had a single and three RBI.

BSE is back in action at Beecher City Saturday with a game against Wayne City at noon and a game against host Cowen-Herrick/Beecher City at 2 p.m.

At Brownstown

Cumberland picked up a five-inning victory over Neoga by the 10-run rule Thursday, 12-2.

 Reid Mathenia went five innings giving up three hits, two runs and striking out six for the win.

The Pirates stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead, tacked on a run in the second then broke loose for nine runs in the third.

Brennyn Cutts had three singles and two RBI while Justin Brown added two singles and three RBI.

Neoga was led by Kaden Young, Trenton Moore and Chase Lanham with a single each. Lanham had two RBI.

At Toledo

Marshall moved ahead 2-0 in the top of the third but Newton tallied seven in the bottom of the frame and went on for a 9-2 win Thursday.

The Eagles powered out 14 hits in the contest led by J. Rice with two singles and a double, Kyle Schafer with a single and an RBI, Zach Stark with two singles and two RBI, Mason Conlin with two singles and two RBI and Chase Galloway with two singles and an RBI.
