Effingham captured an Apollo Conference doubleheader over Mahomet-Seymour in Saturday baseball action.

The Hearts won the opener 10-4 behind five home runs. Zach Lee led the way with two home runs and two RBI while Cooper Jackson had a single, home run and five RBI, Nick Bishop a single, home run and an RBI and Brayton Poland with a solo shot.

Z. Lee had a four-hit pitching performance going four innings allowing one hit, two runs, three walks and struck out five for the win. Poland came on to throw three innings, allowing three hits, two runs, one walk and striking out four.

In the second contest, EHS ran off to an 8-3 opening inning lead and downed M-S 16-6 in six innings via the 10-run rule.

The Hearts pounded out 16 hits led by Tanner Gordon and Kendall Ballman with a single, double and home run each. Ballman had four RBI while Gordon had one. Z. Lee had a double and two RBI, Cameron Kalber a solo home run, Nick Bishop two singles and three RBI and Cooper Jackson and Brayton Poland two singles each. Poland added an RBI.

At Tuscola

Effingham St. Anthony split victories at the Tuscola Invitational Saturday.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 2-1 opening inning lead against host Tuscola in the first contest. But Tuscola came back with a four-run second and tallied a 7-5 win.

Both teams had seven hits but St. Anthony committed four errors.

Davis Tingley had a single, home run and two RBI for the Bulldogs while Blake Niebrugge had two doubles and two RBI. Bryson Wall hit a solo homer.

In the second contest, St. Anthony edged Salt Fork, 5-4.

The two teams were tied at 2-2 after the first inning. The Bulldogs moved ahead 3-2 in the second. Salt Folk led 4-3 after the top of the fifth but the Bulldogs came back with two runs in the bottom of the frame.

St. Anthony had eight hits led by Collin Koester with two singles, a home run and two RBI and Kaden Fearday with two singles.

Jack Hoene came on to pick up the pitching win, going the last three innings, allowing five hits, two runs , no walks and striking out three.

The Bulldogs are now 11-2 on the season.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg split wins at its own invitational Saturday.

In the opener, WSS edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and and went on to blank Cerro Gordo/Bement 8-0.

Logan Greuel and T. Sayers combined on the mound. Greuel picked up the win going 6.2 innings, allowing three hits while striking out 15. Sayers threw a tenth of an inning with one strikeout.

Bennet had two singles and a double while Greuel had two singles and two RBI and G. Kasey a double and two RBI.

In the second contest, Robinson tallied a 4-0 victory behind 10 hits.

The Maroons scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings and two in the seventh.

WSS had four hits led by Bennett with a double.

In a Friday contest, WSS fell to Casey-Westfield. The Warriors led 2-0 after the first then tallied a run in the third and two in the fourth.

The Hatchets had two hits, both singles by C. Kinkelaar and Bennett.

South Central competed in the Benton Tournament Saturday. The Cougars claimed a 15-4 victory over Hamilton County.

Hamilton County held a 4-1 lead until the fifth when South Central broke loose with 14 runs and ended the game via the 10-run rule.

Chase Dodson had a single, home run and four RBI for the winners while Hunter Brandt had a single, home run and three RBI. Sam Rubin contributed a single, double and three RBI and DJ Roberts two singles and an RBI.

In the second contest, South Central edged Benton 8-7. Benton held a 7-4 lead going into the seventh when the Cougars again broke the game open with a four-run inning.

Brandt had a home run and two RBI for the winners while Cowger had a double and an RBI. Dodson had a single but finished with four RBI.

At Salem

Teutopolis captured a doubleheader victory over host Salem in action Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes tied the opening game in the third then had a four-run fourth and went on for a 6-2 victory.

T-town had six hits led by Trenton Schwerdt with a single, double and two RBI. Brayden Will had a double and an RBI.

Schwerdt picked up the pitching win on a five-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts.

In the second game, T-town won by the same 6-2 score. This time around, the Shoes stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead and tacked on the final two runs in the second.

The Shoes had seven hits led by Mitch Hemmen with a single, double and an RBI and Dawson Smith two singles and an RBI.

In Friday action, T-town trounced Flora 15-0 in five innings.

The Shoes banged out 13 hits led by Hemmen with a single, double and two RBI, Luke Ungrund with two singles and four RBI, Schwerdt with two singles and two RBI and Smith with two singles and an RBI.

Clint Weber picked up the win on the mound going six innings, allowing six hits, no walks and striking out seven.

T-town is now 9-4 on the season.

Carrollton edged out to a 3-1 first inning lead then had a six-run second and went on to down Dieterich 14-8 in Saturday action. It was a father-son contest as Josh Krumwiede coaches the Dieterich squad and his father the Carrollton team.

Carrollton outhit the Movin' Maroons by a 14-10 count.

Matthew Hunzinger had a double and drove in three runs for Dieterich. Dalton Will had two singles while Evan Bohnhoff and Derek Kuhl had two singles and an RBI each.

Brownstown/St. Elmo split wins at the Vandalia Round Robinson Tournament Saturday.

BSE lost the opener to host Vandalia 4-2. The Vandals took a 2-1 firsy inning lead and tacked on a run in the third and one in the sixth.

The Eagles had five hits in the game led by Bryton Pruett and Rocky Himes with a double each.

In the second game, BSE won in eight innings, 2-1 over Okawville. Both teams tallied a run in the fourth and the game went into the extra inning before Francisco Viramontes had the game-winning RBI.

Nate Philpot had two singles for the Eagles. Bryton Pruett drove in a run with a single.

Reid Mathenia picked up the six-hit victory on the mound, allowing four walks and striking out six.
