EHS Downs Dieterich, Newton Beats C-W In Baseball Action

Effingham High School pounded out 17 hits and brought home 18 runs to blank Dieterich 18-0 in baseball action Thursday.

The Hearts stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead then had a nine-run second inning, two in the third and finished out with three in the fifth to end the game via the 10-run rule.

EHS had 22 players compete in the contest, 12 of those garnering hits. Tanner Gordon led the way with three singles and two RBI while Brayton Poland added a single, double and three RBI, Tate Niebrugge a single, double and two RBI, Kendall Ballman two singles and an RBI and Kalen Reardon a double.

Parker Wolfe picked up the pitching win in relief, going 2.2 innings, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out five.

Dieterich finished with three hits, all singles by Matthew Hunzinger, Austin Ruholl and Evan Bohnhoff.

Effingham improves to 8-2 on the season.

At Newton

Newton edged Casey-Westfield, 3-2 in action Thursday.

The Eagles trailed Casey-Westfield 2-1 after two innings then tied it in the third. The winning run came in the fourth inning.

Newton had eight hits led by Connor Bierman with  two doubles and two RBI. Mason Conlin added a double.
