Bulldogs Win, EHS Splits Apollo DH, Area Baseball Roundup

Both teams had 10 hits and both teams had an error each. But Effingham St. Anthony took advantage of eight walks and got the hits when needed in a 13-9 win over HIllsboro in baseball action Tuesday.

St. Anthony took a 3-0 lead in the second inning but the Hiltoppers came back with five runs in the top of the third. The Bulldogs tied the score in the bottom of the frame and moved ahead 7-5 in the fourth then tallied four runs in the fifth for a 11-5 lead. Hillsboro again mounted a comeback with four runs in the sixth to pull within two but the Bulldogs tallied two more in the bottom of the frame for the win.

Davis Tingley led the way in hitting with a single, double and an RBI while Hunter Stephens added two singles and two RBI, Aaron Webb a double and two RBI, Bryson Wall two singles and an RBI and Blake NIebrugge a double. Dylan Guy added a single and two RBI.

Jack Hoene picked up the win in relief going 2.2 innings, allowing two hits, two runs, three walks and striking out three.

St. Anthony improves to 9-1 on the season.

At Mount Zion

Effingham split Apollo Conference victories with Mount Zion Tuesday.

The Hearts won the opener 7-1. EHS scored four runs in the fourth and tacked on three more in the fifth. The Braves didn't score until the bottom of the seventh.

Nick Bishop had a double and drove in two runs for the Hearts while Kendall Ballman added a triple. Brayton Poland had a single and drove in two runs while Jackson Lee had two RBI.

Zach Lee was the winning pitcher, going five innings, allowing two hits, one walk and striking out nine.

In the second game, the Braves came back to blank the Hearts, 7-0.

Mount Zion tallied six in the third and one in the fourth behind eight hits. Leach had two singles, a double and two RBI while Lutz had a triple and an RBI and Highley two singles and two RBI.

Effingham had only four hits and committed four errors. Ballman led the way with a single and double.

The Hearts are now 1-1 in the conference, 7-2 overall.

EHS claimed the junior varsity doubleheader. The Hearts won the opener 12-1 behind nine hits led by Jack Blickem with a single, double and three RBI, Matthew Loy with two singles and two RBI, Kalen Reardon with a triple and two RBI, Preston Latch with a double and an RBI and Christian Raddtaz with a double.

Raddatz was the winning pitcher throwing a no-hitter through five innings, allowing one run, two walks and seven strikeouts. Blickem threw one inning, allowing one hit.

The Hearts then took the twinbill with a 5-3 win. The Hearts had five hits led by Joe Mattson with a double. Gage Eaton had two RBI.

At Altamont

Altamont handed Brownstown/St. Elmo a 6-0 National Trail Conference loss behind the pitching of Alek Biggs.

Biggs picked up the two-hit win with two walks and a whopping 16 strikeouts.

The Indians edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead then tacked on one in the third and three in the fifth.

Offensively, Grant Schmidt hit a home run and finished with four RBI while Noah Teasley added a double and two RBI and Dakota Kuhlman a double. Kaden Eirhardt had two singles. The Indians moved over .500 and stand at 6-5 on the season.

BSE was led by Caleb Atwood and Francisco Viramontes with a single each. BSE drops to 5-3.

At Altamont

Teutopolis moved to 6-4 on the season by blanking Olney, 10-0 in five innings via the 10-run rule Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes took a 2-0 lead in the second then had an eight-run fourth. T-town banged out 14 hits in the game led by Trenton Schwerdt with two singles, a home run and four RBI. Dawson Smith added three singles, Tyler Runde two singles and two RBI, Luke Ungrund two singles, Mitch Hemmen a double and Brayden Will a double.

Mitch Hardiek was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits, three walks and striking out seven.

At Dieterich

Dieterich was a big winner over Oblong in action Tuesday, 13-2.

The two teams were knotted at 1-1 in the first ining. The Movin' Maroons then took a 3-1 lead in the third and had a four-run fifth and a six-run sixth to end the contest.

Dieterich had 11 hits led by Cory Gephart and Cole Niebrugge with a single and double each. Niebrugge drove in two runs. Matthew Hunzinger added two singles and three RBI while Austin Ruholl added a double and two RBI. Derek Kuhl had two singles and an RBI.

Evan Bohnhoff was the winning pitcher going five innings allowing one hit, one run, one walk and striking out 10. Niebrugge came on in the sixth allowing one run, one run, one walk and striking out one.

North Clay (Louisville) took the early lead and went on for an 11-1 victory over Newton in five innings Tuesday.

The Cardinals led 3-0 after the first and 10-0 after two. Tyson Jones picked up the victory on the mound going 2.1 innings, allowing two hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

Jones also led in hitting with a single, triple and an RBI. Harmon Clifton also had a single, triple and an RBI. Peyton Koelm knocked out a home run and finished with four RBI.
