Teutopolis High School's Dawson Smith kept the Hearts scoreless through the first five innings. Meanwhile, the Wooden Shoes took a 7-0 lead, scoring a run in the first and two in the third, fourth and fifth innings and that was the game.

Smith went 5.2 innings, allowing two hits, one run, two walks and striking out eight. Derek  Deters came on to finish out the game, allowing two hits, one run, one walk and striking out three.

The Shoes, meanwhile, finished with six hits. Tyler Runde pounded out a solo home run while Trenton Schwerdt had a double and drove in two runs. Smith aided his own cause with a single that drove in two runs. Evan Addis also had a single and drove in two runs.

The Hearts had only four hits, all singles by Tanner Gordon, Cooper Jackson, Brayton Poland and Parker Wolfe. Poland and Wolfe drove in a run each.

The Wooden Shoes improved to 5-4 on the season and handed the Hearts their first loss in seven games.

At Teutopolis

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead and never looked back in a 13-0 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Monday. The game ended in the fifth, via the 10-run rule.

Blake Niebrugge threw the one-hitter allowing three walks while striking out seven.

The Bulldogs had four extra base hits in the contest. Collin Koester had a single, double and drove in two runs. Jack Hoene had a single and triple while Braeden Quandt added a double and two RBI and Aaron Webb a triple and an RBI.

Windsor/Stew-Stras' lone hit came from Logan Greuel with a single.

At St. Anthony

South Central tallied a 13-9 victory over Altamont. The Cougars stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead. The Indians came back with two in the second but the Cougars took a 6-2 lead in the third.

Both teams then scored two in the fourth and five in the fifth.

South Central banged out 13 hits in the contest led by Aaron Patten with four singles and three RBI, Sebastin Cowger with two singles and two RBI and Logan Lotz with two singles and two RBI. Sam Rubin drove in two runs with a single.

Altamont was led by Noah Teasley with two singles and an RBI. Tyler Robbins and Dawson Guerrettaz had a single and two RBI each. Grant Schmidt had two RBI.

At Kinmundy

Vandalia came calling and blanked Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 5-0 in action Monday.

The Vandals took a 1-0 first inning lead then added on a second run in the second inning. The Vandals finished out with three in the sixth.

CHBC had three hits in the game and committed two errors. Mason Manley, Silas Buzzard and Seth Doty had a single each.

At Cowden

Shelbyville broke a 2-2 tie with a four-run third and went on to hand Neoga an 11-5 loss in action Monday.

The Rams had eight hits while the Indians had six.

Neoga was led by Nate Lacy with two singles and an RBI and Chase Lanham with a double and an RBI.

The Indians fall to 0-8 on the season.

At Shelbyville

At Newton

The Cumberland Pirates knocked in five runs in the sixth inning on the way to an 8-1 victory over Newton Monday.

Big bats for the Pirates were Ross Hemmen, Dayton Mitchell and Michael Flier, all driving in runs in the inning.

The Pirates tallied a run in the first then came back with five in the sixth. Brennyn Cutts got the win on the mound. He went five innings allowing no runs on four hits and striking out six. Alex Talley threw two innings in relief.

The Pirates had 12 hits. Justin Brown, Flier and Memphis Waggoner all had multiple hits. Brown led Cumberland with three hits in four at-bats.

Cumberland is now 3-2 on the season.
