EHS, St. A, T-town, WSS, BSE, C'land Claim Baseball Wins

Effingham High School pushed its record to 6-0 on the season by beating Stillman Valley, 7-5 in baseball action Thursday.
The Hearts took a 2-1 opening inning lead. Stillman Valley tied in the top of the third but the Hearts came back with two in the bottom of the frame, then tacked on a run in the fourth and two in the fifth.
EHS had six hits, all singles, by Tanner Gordon, Kendall Ballman, Cooper Jackson, Zach Lee, Jackson Lee and Cameron Kalber. Jackson, Z. Lee and J Lee had an RBI each.
Five pitchers threw for the Hearts. Kalen Reardon picked up the win, going 2.2 innings, allowing two hits, one walk and striking out two.
EHS improves its record to 6-0.

With 12 hits, Effingham St. Anthony outscored Altamont, 12-2 in action Thursday.
Five of those 12 hits were the extra base variety including two doubles and two RBI by Aaron Webb, a single, triple and an RBI by Kaden Fearday, a single, double and an RBI by Blake Niebrugge and a double and two RBI by Bryson Wall. Davis Tingley finished with two RBI.
Gavin Braunecker went five innings, allowing seven hits, two runs, one walk and striking out eight for the win. Dylan Guy came on the final inning, striking out three batters.
Altamont had seven hits led by Jacob Hammer with two singles, a double and two RBI and Alek Biggs with a double.

At Mattoon
It was a marathon, not a sprint when Teutopolis blanked Mattoon 7-0 in action Thursday.
The Green Wave tallied a run in the fourth and T-town tied in the top of the sixth. The two teams then went 14 innings before the Wooden Shoes broke loose with a seven-run inning.
T-town had seven hits led by Clint Weber with four singles and two RBI and Brady McMahon with a double and an RBI. Mitch Hemmen added two RBI.
Mattoon went through seven pitchers while T-town had three. Weber picked up the win, going the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Logan Greuel held Tri-County in check as the Hatchets blanked the visitors in action Thursday, 2-0.
Greuel went all seven innings, allowing three hits, no walks and striking out a whopping 16 batters.
The Hatchets had single runs in the third and fifth innings.
Logan Greuel led the way with three singles and drove in both runs. Kinkelaar added two singles and Sam Vonderheide a double.

Brownstown/St. Elmo came from behind to hand South Central a 7-2 loss Thursday.
South Central tallied single runs in the first and second and held that until the third when BSE tied the contest. The Eagles then tallied two in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Nate Philpot was the winning pitcher going 4.1 innings, allowing three hits, six walks and striking out eight.
Rocky Himes had the lone extra base hit of the game with a double for BSE. The other six hits were all singles by six different players. Dalton Myers had two RBI.
South Central was led by Sebastin Cowger with two singles.
BSE is now 5-2 on the season while South Central drops to 2-2.

Martinsville stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and Dieterich never recovered in a 3-1 loss Thursday.
The Maroons' lone run came in the second inning.
The Bluestreaks had eight hits and A. Morgan threw a five-hitter with no walks and 11 strikeouts.
Dieterich was led by M. Niemerg and A. Poe with two singles each.
