EHS, St. Anthony Nab Baseball Wins, Altamont Splits

Effingham High School claimed a 9-5 win over Granite City in baseball action Friday.
The Hearts' Zach Lee went five innings and picked up the pitching win allowing two hits, two runs, one walk and striking out nine.
EHS took a 5-0 first inning lead and led 6-2 going into the sixth. EHS tacked on two more runs in the top of the frame and a single run in the seventh.
Kendall Ballman had a single, double and an RBI for the Hearts. Cooper Jackson also had an RBI with a single.

At Breese
Despite being outhit 11-9, Effingham St. Anthony High School picked up an 8-6 win over Breese Mater Dei in Saturday action.
The two teams were tied at 3-3 in the fourth inning before the Bulldogs moved ahead with a run in the fifth. Mater Dei tied the score in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game into extra innings.
But St. Anthony didn't mess around scoring four runs in the top of the eighth. The Bulldogs then had to hold off Mater Dei again as the Knights scored two in the bottom of the frame.
The Bulldogs had nine hits led by Collin Koester with three singles, Dylan Guy with a single, double and two RBI, Davis Tingley with two singles and an RBI and Aaron Webb with a double and an RBI.

At Albion
Altamont split victories with Edwards County (Albion) Saturday.
Edwards County claimed the opening victory, 9-2.
The homestanders took a 3-0 lead in the third and had a five-run fifth. Edwards County had 12 hits.
Altamont had six hits led by Jacob Hammer with a single, home run and two RBI and Dawson Guerrettaz with a single and double.
In the second contest, Altamont blanked Edwards County, 6-0.
The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the second and had a three-run fourth. Altamont had six hits led by Alek Biggs with two doubles and two RBI and Hammer with a double.
Jacob Robbins was the winning pitcher, going three innings, not allowing a hit, four walks and striking out three.

Coal City took a 1-0 lead in the first inning then tacked on single runs in the second and fifth to down Teutopolis, 3-1 in action Friday.
The Wooden Shoes had only two hits, a double by Tyler Runde and a single by Dawson Smith.
T-town drops to 0-2 on the season.
