Teutopolis High School senior Dawson Smith announced Tuesday morning he will play college baseball at Kaskaskia College in Centralia.

Smith, who is getting ready for his final year of high school basketball at T-Town, said his good friend and former teammate, Eric Kremer, a Teutopolis graduate, talked to KC Coach Mitch Koester, another Teutopolis graduate, about Smith.

Smith said Koester wants him to concentrate on pitching for Kaskaskia. That's an aspect of baseball that has great appeal for Smith, saying he likes to be on the mound and control the game.

As to what he'll pursue academically at KC, Smith said he's leaning toward the Industrial Technology program.

Dawson is the son of Tim and Jody Smith.
