CHICAGO -- After 48 come-from-behind wins this season, the Chicago Cubs just couldn't pull it out Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies in the National League Wild Card game. And that ended the season for the Cubs
The game went 4 hours, 55 minutes before the Rockies claimed the win in the 13th inning. Trevor Story singled off Kyle Hendricks and reached third on Gerardo Pavra's single. He then came home with the winning run on Tony Wolters' single.
It was the longest elimination game in history in terms of innings with 13 and time with 4 hours, 55 minutes.
The Rockies took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Cubs came back to tie it in the eighth.
The Cubs had six hits with Javier Baez getting a double and driving in a run and Albert Almora Jr. with two singles.
Jon Lester went six inings, allowing four hits, one run, one walk and striking out nine. Hendricks was the losing pitcher as the Cubs used nine.
Twins Fire Manager
The Minnesota Twins fired manager Paul Molitor Tuesday. Molitor was named American League manager of the year last year after taking the team to the wild-card game against the Yankees and was rewarded with a three-year contract.
