Cubs, Cardinals Drop MLB Losses

CHICAGO -- Both teams tallied seven hits each but Pittsburgh got the timely hits while the Chicago Cubs couldn't produce and lost 7-1 in action at Wrigley Field Monday.
The lone producer of a run was pitcher Cole Hamels who knocked out a solo shot in the third inning.
Other than that, the rest of the six hits were scattered singles.
Pittsburgh also produced seven hits but brought home two runs in the first and single runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth.
Brewers 6, Cardinals 4
St. Louis led most of the way until the latter innings when Milwaukee came alive to claim a 6-4 win at Busch Stadium Monday.
The score was tied at 1-1 after three innings. St. Louis held a 4-3 lead in the sixth but Milwaukee tied in the seventh then tallied single runs in the eighth and ninth for the victory.
Jose Martinez and Marcell Ozuna produced the three runs in the sixth with home runs. Martinez hit a solo shot and Ozuna a two-run blow. Matt Carpenter added a double and an RBI and Harrison Bader a double.
Jack Flaherty started the game and went 5.1 innings allowing four hits, three runs, two walks and five strikeouts. The Cardinals went through seven pitchers.
Oakland Clinches Playoff Berth
The Oakland Athletics clinched a playoff berth last night when the Tampa Bay Rays lost to the New York Yankees. The A’s still have a chance to take the AL West, but will likely face the Yankees as a wild card.
Red Sox Record 106th Win
The Boston Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles Monday night for their franchise record 106th win of the season. The 1912 team had 105 wins and went on to with the World Series. The Red Sox also clinched home-field advantage through the postseason.
Giants' Relieve GM of Duties
The San Francisco Giants have relieved General Manager Bobby Evans of his duties. However, the team is expected to ask Evans to stay in the organization.
