CHARLESTON, Ill. – Two former Eastern Illinois baseball pitchers have signed with new professional baseball clubs this offseason. Mike Recchia (2008-10) joins the Baltimore Orioles organization while Tyler Kehrer (2007-09) joins the Miami Marlins organization.

Kehrer posted a 2-3 record for the Inland Empire 66ers (High A – Los Angeles Angels) with a 5.82 ERA last year. The left-handed pitcher threw 37 strikeouts in 38.2 innings of work. He finished the season with the New Orleans Zephyrs (Triple A – Los Angles Angels).

Kerer joins a new club after being drafted by the Angels in 2009 of the Comp A round (48th overall selection).

Recchia played for Windy City ThunderBolts (independent) last season, posting an 11-3 record with a 2.51 ERA as a starting pitcher. He earned the Brian Tollberg Award, given to the league’s top pitcher, after setting league records with five shutouts and 177 strikeouts. He also led the league in complete games (6) and innings pitched (150.1).

Recchia previously played in the New York Yankees farm system in both 2010 and 2011.
