ST. LOUIS -- Anthony Rizzo's move to the top of the lineup has worked out for the Chicago Cubs. Rizzo knocked out a solo homer, his third in the last four games as the Cubs beat St. Louis, 5-2 in action Sunday.

Rizzo also scored the tiebreaking run on an error.

The Cardinals held a 2-1 first inning lead but the Cubs tied in the third then scored three in the fifth. Chicago had 10 hits in the contest while Kyle Hendricks went seven innings, allowing four hits, two runs, no walks and struck out eight to improve his pitching record to 7-9.

Ben Zobrist had quite the game, hitting two singles, a double and a solo home run. Javier Baez added a double and two RBI while David Bote had a single and double. Willson Contreras and Albert Almora finished out with a single each. Baez now has a total of 79 RBI.

Yadier Molina and Yairo Munoz had a double each while Marcell Ozuna hit a two-run homer to give the Cardinals the 2-0 first inning lead.
John Gant left the game after 4.1 innings allowing four hits, three runs, two earned, two walks and struck out four to drop to 3-4 on the season.

Braves' Newcomb Within one Strike of No-Hitter

Atlanta Braves pitcher Sean Newcomb came within one strike of throwing the fourth no-hitter of the 2018 major league season. Newcomb gave up a two-out, two-strike single to shortstop Chris Taylor, although the Braves won the game 4-1.

Shortly after throwing his near no-hitter Sunday, Atlanta Braves pitcher Sean Newcomb was apologizing for past Twitter posts. The posts from several years ago used homophobic language and Newcomb said he didn’t mean to offend anybody and would make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Nationals' Turner Sending Inappropriate Tweets

Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner is the latest baseball player to be caught sending inappropriate tweets. A series of tweets sent by Turner in 2011 and 2012 used racist and homophobic language and the Nationals issued a statement last night saying Turner said he was "sincerely sorry" for the tweets.
