Goreville Ends Altamont's Season

CARBONDALE -- Goreville High School ended Altamont's season at the Class 1A Carbondale Super-Sectional at Itchy Jones Stadium Monday, 19-2.
Goreville edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead and that lead stood until the fourth when the Blackcats tallied two more for a 4-0 lead. In the top of the fifth that lead went to 9-0.
Altamont tallied its two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Dakota Kuhlman led off the frame with a single and Alek Biggs followed with an infield single. Another single, this one by Kaleb Whitt, loaded the bases. A fly ball to left field by Kolby Pemberton brought in a run. Wyatt Vaughn then followed with a single before the next two batters were out.
The game went to the seventh as 9-2 when Goreville broke it wide open with 10 runs.
Goreville had 15 hits in the contest and was aided by four Altamont errors.
Kuhlman led the Indians with two singles.
Altamont ends the season with an 18-13 record. Goreville advances with a 25-3 mark to the Class 1A State Tournament Friday at Peoria's Dozer Park.
Goreville will take on Valmeyer, a 6-0 winner over Glasford Illini Bluffs, at noon Friday while Ottawa Marquette faces Aurora at 10 a.m. Ottawa Marquette edged Bethany Okaw Valley 10-9 and Aurora Christian won 2-1 over Forreston.
