Altamont, Dieterich Move Into Baseball Regional Title Games

WINDSOR -- Altamont High School edged out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning and tacked on another run in the third. Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg made a comeback bid in the top of the seventh, scoring a run, but Altamont claimed the 2-1 win in the Class 1A WSS Baseball Regional Thursday.

Altamont had one extra base hit, a double by Kaleb Whitt. Dakota Kuhlman singled home a run and Wyatt Vaughn got an RBI. The Indians are now 15-12 on the season.

The Hatchets' lone run came on a homer by Isaac Kramer.

Alek Biggs threw the one-hitter with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Altamont advances to the title game against Effingham St. Anthony Saturday at 11 a.m.

Class 1A Dieterich Regional

Dieterich captured the championship of its own regional with a 4-2 win over Cumberland Thursday.

The Pirates took a 1-0 first inning lead before Dieterich tied in the third and moved ahead with a run in the fifth. Cumberland tied in the top of the sixth but the Movin' Maroons came back to tally two more runs in the bottom of the frame for the victory.

Dieterich had seven hits led by Callaway Campton and Devin Flach with two singles each, Campton had an RBI. Paul Thoele had a double and an RBI.

Cumberland was led by Bryson Cutts with a single, double and an RBI and Brennyn Cutts with two singles and an RBI.

Dieterich advances to face Neoga at noon Saturday for the regional title.

Class 1A Woodlawn Regional

Woodlawn tallied a 9-5 victory over Cisne Thursday to advance to its own regional championship.

Woodlawn will now face North Clay (Louisville)  at 11 a.m. Saturday for the regional title.
