EHS Splits Apollo DH, Area Baseball Roundup

Effingham split an Apollo Conference doubleheader with Mattoon Saturday and finished second in the conference.

The Hearts took a 3-1 first inning lead in the opener then added on five in the second, four in the third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to hold on for a 15-13 victory.

EHS banged out 14 hits in the contest led by Mason Hull with two singles, three doubles and four RBI. Ryan Sandifer hit a single, home run and drove in five. Parker Seachrist and Brett Koester had a double each. Seachrist had two RBI and Koester one. Zack Lee added two singles.

Sandifer picked up the pitching win on a six-hitter with five walks and four strikeouts.

In the second contest, the Green Wave struck hard in the first inning, going out to a 6-1 lead then added on four more in the second. The Hearts tallied two more in the fifth and that was it.

Mattoon had 12 hits in the contest while Effingham had only four and ended with four errors.

Effingham finished the conference with a 7-3 record and stands at 20-5 overall.

At Williamsville

Teutopolis took the early lead and never relented in a 12-2 victory over Williamsville Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes led 4-2 after one and 7-2 after two. T-town had 16 hits in the game led by Cody Jansen with a single, double, home run and three RBI, Eric Kremer with two singles, a triple and an RBI, Drew Thoele with a triple and two RBI, Tyler Runde and Lee Hardiek with a triple and an RBI each and Ethyn Dust and Trenton Schwerdt had a double and an RBI each.

Collin Funneman went six innings, allowed two runs on three hits, one walk and struck out five. The Shoes improve to 23-6 while Williamsville drop to 19-8.

At Altamont

Altamont played host to Anna-Jonesboro and edged the visitors, 3-2 in action Saturday.

The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Anna-Jonesboro tied in the top of the fourth and took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth. But Altamont came back with two runs in the bottom of that frame to produce the win.

Noah Teasley led the way hitting-wise with a single, home run and an RBI.

South Central claimed a 12-1 win over Dieterich in five innings Friday evening.

The Cougars took a 4-1 opening inning lead then had a five-run second and a three-run third.

Trent Geiler led the way for the winners with two singles, a double and two RBI while Ryan Matheny added two singles and an RBI and Cauy Blomberg had a home run and five RBI.

Dieterich was led by Paul Thoele with a double and McClain with two singles.

Neoga edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in action Friday, 4-3.

The Indians held a 1-0 lead after three innings then tacked on two in the fourth. WSS tied in the top of the fifth but Neoga came back with the winning run in the bottom of that frame.

Evan Fritcher had a double, home run and two RBI for Neoga while Drew Ramert added a double and an RBI.

The Hatchets were led by Christian Kessler, with a single, home run and an RBI, Isaac Kramer with a home run and two RBI and Logan Greuel with a single and double.

Altamont blanked Shelbyville 4-0 in Friday competition.

The Indians held a 1-0 first inning lead then added on single runs in the third, fifth and sixth.

Altamont had nine hits led by Dawson Guerrettaz with two singles and Wyatt Vaughn and Noah Teasley with a double each.Teasley added an RBI.

Alek Biggs picked up the pitching win going all seven innings, allowing four hits, four walks and striking out seven.

Olney took the early lead and held on for a 3-2 win over Newton Friday.

The Eagles outhit Olney 9-4. Cohorst had three singles while Jansen had two singles and Stark two singles and an RBI. PItcher had a double and an RBI.

Okaw Valley played host to North Clay (Louisville) and sent the Cardinals home with a 12-1 loss Friday.

North Clay held a 1-0 lead in the first inning. But Okaw Valley came back with a vengeance with eight runs in the second.

North Clay was led by Tyson Jones, Luke Fleener and Ethan Burkett with a single each.
