CHICAGO -- It was a pitcher's decision Sunday but in the end the Chicago White Sox pulled out a 5-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs. The game was played in the pink as Major League Baseball's Going to Bat Againstt Breast Cancer was on Mother's Day and players used pink bats and wore pink.

Kyle Hendricks suffered the loss, giving up four runs, three earned, in his six innings. He did not walk a batter. Lucas Giolito gave up seven walks over 5 2/3 innings, hit a batter and threw three wild pitches. But of the 100 pitches he tossed, half were strikes and he ended up with the victory.

The Cubs held a 2-0 lead in the first as Javier Baez hit a two-run single. In the fourth, Ian Happ came up with an RBI double that broke the tie. But the White Sox ended the Cubs' five-game winning streak as Matt Davidson hit a solo homer in the second inning and also hit a tie-breaking sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Padres 5, Cardinals 3

Adam Wainwright, battling elbow problems, went 2 1/3 innings in his first start since April 16. He gave up two runs, three hits and walked six as the Cardinals dropped a 5-3 decision to the San Diego Padres.

He will be sent back to St. Louis for reevaluation on his repaired elbow.

St. Louis pulled within 5-3 when Harrison Bader hit his third home run of the season in the ninth. The Cardinals loaded the bases with one out but Carson Kelly and Kolten Wong both struck out.

Tommy Pham had a one-out walk in the sixth and he came home on Bader's triple. Jose  Martinez then brought Bader in with a single. But the Padres got an inning-ending double play.

The Padres made it 2-0 in the third and Wainwright exited the game. They tacked on two more runs in the fourth.

Yankees Have Four Players Hit 10 Home Runs

New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton homered in the team’s 6-2 win over the Oakland Athletics Sunday. That gave the Yankees four players to hit at least 10 home runs by the 40th game of the season for the first time in team history. The last team to do it was the 2003 Texas Rangers.

Cano Suffers Broken Right Hand

Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano left Sunday’s game at Detroit with a broken right hand after being hit by a pitch. Cano will see a specialist Monday morning and said his hand is broken so badly that surgery may be needed.

Hill Leaves Game With Blister

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Rich Hill left Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds with a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand. However, the team is hopeful Hill can make his next start.
